Did you know that September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month? At Empower Youth Network, all of our programs are rooted in prevention, which includes a specific Youth Suicide Prevention program. Over the course of September, we will…

  • Share more about how the Youth Suicide Prevention program at EYN works.
    • You can also join us in-person for our Save a Life Morning & Nights coming up in October, because we work on prevention efforts all year round!
  • Dive into what prevention means and looks like on our social media platforms, highlighting critical resources, tools, and facts.
    • We will amplify the work and messages of national organizations leading major research, education and campaigns for September such as SAMHSA, 988 Lifeline, and NAMI.
  • Have organic, important conversations about youth suicide prevention with community.
  • Work with cities, school districts, and the Snoqualmie Tribe to proclaim September as Suicide Prevention Month.

All month we are going to be talking about ways we can support each other, the work of suicide prevention across the valley and how you CAN help! Learning the warning signs of when someone may be struggling could help those in need of support. Some of these warning signs could be:
 
1️⃣ Someone appearing or expressing that they’re sad, lonely, hopeless, in pain, moody, and/or irritable.
 
2️⃣ Pushing away friends and family, giving away important possessions, using alcohol or drugs, making unsafe decisions, making or researching suicide plans, making art or writing about death.
 
3️⃣ Changes in school performance, changes in appearance or hygiene, changes in personality or attitude, just not seeming like themselves
 
4️⃣ Saying they’re going to kill themselves, saying goodbye. This also could manifest in the form of a text or post.
