SUMMARY:IN-PERSON Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) - Fall City\, WA
DESCRIPTION:Youth MHFA teaches adults to identify mental health/substance symptoms\, provide initial support\, and connect youth to community resources. \n\n\nMust be 18 years or older to take this training. \nRegister Here.\nThis training is hosted by Empower Youth Network and will be held on Saturday\, October 10 from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Fall City Fire House community room at 4301 334th Pl SE\, Fall City\, WA. Class will begin promptly at 9 a.m. There is online\, self-paced pre-work required for all participants to attend the instructor led session on Saturday\, 10/10. You will receive an email with instructions on how to complete this approximately 2 weeks before the training date. \nThis training is provided for residents of King County\, WA\, or individuals who work in King County\, WA. If you are not a resident/worker in King County\, WA and are interested in training\, please visit the National Council website to find trainings in your area. \nJust as CPR training prepares people without medical backgrounds to help someone who is having a heart attack\, Mental Health First Aid trains people to help someone who is at risk of developing a mental health problem or who is going through a mental health crisis. The Mental Health First Aid training is an interactive course that introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health issues\, and emphasizes that recovery is possible. Participants are taught a five-step action plan to assist someone experiencing a crisis and connect them to appropriate professional care. King County MIDD partners with Valley Cities to offer this training at no cost to residents and employees throughout King County who are over the age of 18. \n“I had a random person walk in and ask me for help. I was able to figure out he was having a panic attack. I was able to help him calm down\, AND his boyfriend that was on the phone with him. I’ve also been able to give a list of MH resources to several friends that have reached out needing someone to talk to.” — Adult Mental Health First Aider\, 2021 \nMental Health First Aid training is funded by the King County Mental Illness and Drug Dependency (MIDD) Plan Initiative PRI-07 – Mental Health First Aid. These sessions are open to the public\, though space may be limited. Course and course materials are included (a $170 value per participant). This project is supported\, in whole or in part\, by federal award number SLFRPO152\, awarded to King County by the US Department of the treasury.
